Introduction
The Holland Family Legacy Foundation awards a scholarship to support undergraduate study. Below are the eligibility rules, evaluation standards, required application materials, timelines, and award conditions.
Eligibility
- Minimum GPA: 3.5 on a 4.0 scale for applicants applying from high school; 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for those currently in college.
- Must be enrolled in, or planning to enroll in, full-time undergraduate study at an accredited four-year college or university for the entire academic year.
- Household income under $100,000 per year, or applicants who can document an extenuating circumstance (for example, significant medical expenses or a recent job loss/change).
Selection Criteria
The selection committee will assess applications using the following factors:
- Academic record (grade point average)
- Standardized test results (SAT/ACT), if provided
- Leadership experience and personal qualities
- Clear goals and future plans
- Evidence of personal values and character
- Demonstrated financial need
Required Application Materials
Applicants must submit the following items:
1) Video Essay
- A 3–5 minute video in which you present something you care deeply about and explain why. Past topics from winners have included filmmaking, knitting, organizations they founded, robotics, basketball, and volunteer work. Let your personality come through and be authentic.
2) Personal Essay
- A written reflection describing a particular experience and how it influenced your development.
3) Resume
- Include extracurricular activities, honors and awards, special talents, community service, and employment history.
4) Adult Appraisal
- A statement from an adult describing the applicant’s impact on the community or on other people.
5) Peer Appraisal
- A statement from a peer explaining why they value the applicant as a friend and colleague.
6) Transcripts
- Upload your high school transcripts.
Application Timeline and Award Distribution
- Online applications are accepted beginning January 1 and closing March 15.
- The Holland Family Legacy Foundation will notify the scholarship recipient by May 1.
- Scholarship funds are restricted to undergraduate tuition and fees only. Payments will be made directly to the recipient’s institution and disbursed in two equal installments for the fall and spring semesters.
Selection Process and Conditions
- The Holland Family Legacy Foundation appoints the scholarship selection committee. The committee may decide not to grant an award in any year if, in its judgment, there are insufficiently qualified applicants. If the chosen recipient cannot accept the scholarship, the committee may select an alternate.
