Intro
The North Dakota Stockmen’s Foundation Tokach Angus Ranch Memorial Scholarship provides financial assistance to students pursuing agriculturally related studies at accredited colleges or universities. One $1,000 award is available; the recipient also receives a one-year membership in the North Dakota Stockmen’s Association. Preference will be given to applicants who already hold a bachelor’s degree and are enrolled in graduate or professional programs (for example, veterinary or law school).

Purpose
This scholarship is intended to support a student majoring in a beef-related field such as Animal Science, Range Science, Pre-Veterinary Medicine, Agribusiness, Agricultural Communications, Farm & Ranch Management, or other similar disciplines connected to the beef industry.
Award
- Amount: $1,000
- Includes: One-year membership in the North Dakota Stockmen’s Association
- Disbursement: Payment is made following the recipient’s enrollment for the fall semester.
Eligibility (applicants must meet all of the following)
1. Be a resident of North Dakota.
2. Hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
3. Be enrolled at the time of application in an accredited institution in one of the fields listed under Purpose.
4. Demonstrate an interest in North Dakota’s beef cattle industry.
5. Be a member of the North Dakota Stockmen’s Association or the child of a member.
6. Provide a completed application packet (see Application Requirements). Emailed submissions will not be accepted.
Selection priorities
The scholarship is awarded primarily on financial need and commitment to further education. Secondary factors include academic performance, leadership, extracurricular involvement, and moral character. As noted, stronger consideration will be given to applicants who have completed a bachelor’s degree and are pursuing graduate or professional studies.
Application requirements (must be included; incomplete packets will not be considered)
- Completed scholarship application form.
- Personal essay addressing the requested topics (see below).
- Official transcript.
- References as specified on the application form.

Essay / Personal statement content (applicant should address each item)
- Description of involvement in the cattle industry (activities, organizations, honors, etc.).
- Reasons for choosing the current major.
- Perspective on the future of the cattle industry.
- Plans for involvement in the cattle industry after graduation.
Deadline and selection process
- Deadline: Application must be received by the North Dakota Stockmen’s Association office by March 1.
- The scholarship committee will review applications and select the recipient.
- Payment will be issued after the recipient enrolls for the fall semester.
Funding and payment procedure
Once a recipient is chosen, the North Dakota Stockmen’s Foundation will issue a check for the award amount to the recipient’s college or university development foundation. The Foundation will release the funds upon authorization from the office of student financial aid at that institution.
Committee and other guidelines
- The Scholarship Selection Committee will be chaired by the NDSF advisory committee chairman and include at least three additional livestock industry professionals.
- Any revisions to these scholarship guidelines must be made by the North Dakota Stockmen’s Foundation Board of Directors.
- The recipient’s name should be published in the North Dakota Stockman and any other appropriate outlets; if feasible, the winner will be acknowledged at the annual convention to provide publicity for both the student and the Foundation.
- Official selection criteria will emphasize: (1) demonstrated need, (2) completeness and quality of the application, and (3) interest in the beef industry.
